Questions about the App

Is there a monthly subscription fee for the app?
There is no monthly subscription fee. It is free of charge.

How does the reward system work?
Parents and kids set goals and rewards together for on-time returns. You set how many on-time returns merit a reward and you also set the reward based on what works best for your family. Kids can track their progress, which provides positive reinforcement for healthy habits and promotes a balanced relationship with technology.

What is TechDen Jr?
TechDen Jr is a free app you install on your kids’ devices. It allows kids to view schedules, check how much time remains on a device, see if they’re meeting goals, and even request more time. If a child requests more time, a real-time notification is sent to the parent via the TechDen app. The parent can accept or decline the kid’s request for more device time with a single tap.
The TechDen Jr app sends notifications when a session has 10 minutes and 5 minutes remaining, and when it’s time to return the device to The Den. If a child doesn’t return a device within 5 minutes of a scheduled time, a notification is sent to the parent via the TechDen app.
Kids can track progress toward the goals and rewards they’ve established in collaboration with their parents. This provides positive reinforcement for healthy habits and promotes a balanced relationship with technology.

How does a schedule work?
Based on your kid’s schedule, you can set up sessions, which are windows of time during which they can use their device. Within each session, parents can set a maximum allowable screen time.

What if my child doesn’t return his / her device when time has expired?

If your kid does not return his / her device back to The Den within 5 minutes of time expiring, you will get a notification on your (parent) device via the TechDen app. This is meant to  prompt you to have a conversation with your child about why the device was not returned to The Den in time. As a parent, you can set and enforce whatever consequences you’ve agreed to within your family.
Kids get regular notifications on their device counting down how much time they have left before it’s time to return their device to The Den.
Studies show kids respond better to predictable notifications rather than the sudden “two minute warning” parents give at arbitrary times that often catch kids off guard.

Can I manage more than two children from one Den?
Yes, as long as two (or more) of the children are sharing a device. The Den manages, stores, and charges up to two devices per Den.

Do I have to set schedules in order to manage devices using The Den?
Yes, to fully utilize The Den, you should schedule your kids’ allowable device times with The App. During an allowable time for device use, kids can simply access devices from The Den. If it is not an allowable time, the doors of The Den will be locked, preventing kids from accessing devices. The Den requires the TechDen app, a wireless connection, and Bluetooth to function as a complete device management solution.

TechDen requires an iOS or Android device (iOS 9.0 or later, Android 4.2 or later). TechDen requires a home internet connection and a compatible router. The Den requires the TechDen app, a wireless connection, and Bluetooth to function as a complete device management solution.
